In the shadow of Vesuvius lies the Gulf of Naples, a marvelous place that enchants with its natural riches and artistic treasures accumulated over 2,500 years of history. At the heart of the Mediterranean routes, this wide, sheltered bay is literally encircled by volcanic craters: the Phlegraean Fields to the west and Vesuvius to the east.

Despite the threat of the volcanoes, humans have never abandoned these lands. On the contrary, this is where the story of one of Europe’s oldest and most complex cities begins, a city that has been inhabited for three millennia by Greeks, Romans, Goths, Byzantines, Normans, and ultimately, the powerful Bourbon dynasty.
