Tee for All
Buddhism and tea were brought to Japan at the beginning of our calendar. For shipments of tea, the British organized the smuggling of opium into China. The American War of Independence was triggered by the Boston Tea Party. Far more than just a beverage, tea has shifted the attitudes of nations, deepened class and caste divisions, shaped social behaviors, and led to significant medical advancements.
Today, we drink 15,000 cups of tea every second, and tea remains one of the main export commodities for India and China. However, while the tea bag revolution of the early 1900s led to a tremendous spread of tea worldwide, it came at the cost of a decline in the quality of blends.
