Ernest Hemingway
Making a film on such an important writer sets a dilemma from the start: should we illustrate and bring to life the myth he represents, or should we get round it in order to find the man made of flesh, blood and words?

In the case of “Daddy” Hemingway, the first solution asserted itself, for the myth is so omnipresent in the collective consciousness that we could only find bits of elements quite inadequate to the “construction” of a character. The cult of the myth asserted itself in that case through lack of any serious alternative.
Bringing to life in 45 minutes a character demanded a new approach in our way to deal with the information we wished to provide our audience with.
We thus selected authors who are all very close to the novelist and his work, and all for different reasons. Alone, a few scattered archives could not be sufficient.
press coverage
For the collection A Century of Writers, Arnaud de Sélignac and Pierre Gugliemina have created a superb portrait of the American writer. (…) A fascinating work that blends archival footage with testimonies and reflections from authors captivated or influenced by Hemingway's universe.
